Diamond Engagement Ring VS. Gemstone Engagement Ring

So you’re planning on getting married. That’s a big deal. A lot of people don’t get to have that kind of opportunity and those that HAVE waste it away by breaking relationships and trusts. Do you know what it means to be tied and bonded to the one you love until “Death do you part”?

We hope you do.

Getting the engagement ring that will represent that is easy. Sometimes it isn’t. The more complicated parts happen by choosing and fitting and then waiting for the ring to get done, if you chose to go customised. Then there’s the settings and the cut and the styles. It’s all really complicated but to some, it’s easy.

On to the ring’s centre. Do you know what you want? You might think that just choosing for the prettiest one would be enough, but no, it does NOT work like that. Let’s look at our options.

Diamond Engagement Ring

Diamonds are naturally what couples have been going for even before our grandparents learned to love each other. They are eternal and they sparkle the brightest, which makes them really precious and valuable. They are also known as the strongest rock in the world. The thing is, they are known to be the most expensive stone. You will have to learn the 4 C’s (Colour, Cut, Clarity, and Carat) and then work on the shape and the budget before you choose this one. But yes, they are worth it. If you think your love is the kind that lasts forever, then this stone is for you.

Another downside to picking diamonds is that you can’t really choose the colours, since they are limited, save for the very unique and rare ones. You might think you want a pink diamond, but that stone’s known as the most expensive stone in the world, even by diamond standards. So you really only have either white or yellow diamonds to choose from.

Gemstone Engagement Ring

There are so many gemstones in the world, with different colours, different names, different shapes and different meanings. You have your rubies, sapphires, pearls, amethysts, garnets, aquamarines, topazes and so on. Each one of them signify a different yet lovely meaning and you get to have choosing which one fits you and your loved one the most. Not to mention, the array of colours will have you super overwhelmed and a little too excited over which you should choose on your engagement ring. The best part? They might cost a lot but NOT enough to rival a small diamond, and yet they are much more beautiful than diamonds most times.

The debate of diamond engagement rings vs. gemstone engagement rings end when you ask about the durability. Sure, you can get the purest and the most expensive ruby (the second most expensive stone next to a diamond) out there but it still will not be as hard as a diamond. They will last a lifetime, sure, but you can’t be too sure if they will even last a second one.
